Dermod O'Brien painted Trim Castle in 1938 — the largest Anglo-Norman fortress in Ireland, rising above the River Boyne in County Meath. He renders it with quiet authority: the weight of the stonework balanced by open sky and the measured calm of the surrounding landscape.
O'Brien (1865–1945) was one of the leading figures in Irish painting of his era and served as President of the Royal Hibernian Academy. This work reflects his deep interest in Irish heritage and historic place.
