Collection: Dermod O'Brien

President of the Royal Hibernian Academy for 35 years — and one of the most underrated Irish painters of the 20th century.

Dermod O'Brien (1865–1945) brought European rigour to Irish portraiture and landscape — trained in Antwerp and Paris, deeply embedded in Irish cultural life, and possessed of a formal intelligence and quiet authority that his more flamboyant contemporaries rarely matched. A body of work that deserves far wider recognition than it currently receives.
