The original hangs in the National Gallery of Ireland. James Humbert Craig's view of Leenane harbour — where the Killary fjord meets the Connemara mountains — is one of the defining images of the Irish West, painted in the 1920s when this coastline was still truly remote.
Craig (1877–1944) was a Belfast-born painter who returned to Connemara year after year, drawn by its moody Atlantic light. He became one of Ireland's most collected landscape painters, and this harbour scene is among his finest works.
