Orpen painted Lady Maude Marriott in 1921, when he was the most sought-after society portraitist in Europe and she was one of the most well-travelled women in it.

The daughter of American financier Otto Kahn, Lady Marriott moved between London, Paris, New York and Cairo as easily as most people changed rooms. Orpen caught her at exactly that moment — poised, assured, completely at home in the world. It is a Jazz Age portrait painted by an Irish artist who had survived the Western Front and come back to find society carrying on regardless.

There is something quietly remarkable about that — and Orpen knew it.

The original hangs in the Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin. This archival giclée print is made on heavyweight fine art paper with fade-resistant inks, built to last.
