Erskine Nicol's view of Bray seafront captures a warm Victorian afternoon on Ireland's east coast — horse-drawn carriages along the promenade, figures gathered at the water's edge, and Bray Head rising against a softly glowing sky. Painted in the 19th century, it remains one of the most evocative images of Wicklow's coastline.

Nicol (1825–1904) was a Scottish-born painter who spent much of his career in Ireland, becoming one of the most celebrated recorders of Irish coastal and rural life in the Victorian era.
