Roderic O’Conor is recognised as Irish Post-Impressionist painter associated with the Pont-Aven School. This work belongs to Early modern period, reflecting Painted circa 1893, Apples and Pear is an early still life by Roderic O’Conor from a formative period of his career spent working in France. Executed in oil on panel, the composition uses a restrained arrangement of fruit to explore form, weight, and surface through confident brushwork and tonal contrast rather than precise outline. The work was painted during O’Conor’s time in Pont-Aven, where he was absorbing continental influences that would later define his mature Post-Impressionist style.
