Collection: Frederic William Burton

One painting made him immortal. The rest of his work is just as extraordinary.

Frederic William Burton (1816–1900) created The Meeting on the Turret Stairs — one of the most reproduced works in Irish art history. Born in County Clare, he was a master watercolourist whose delicate technique and literary sensibility brought medieval and romantic subjects to vivid life. He later became Director of the National Gallery in London.
